Duck you are correct! I've never even heard anyone call someone duck before!!

It's a northern thing. I'd imagine PaulD uses it all the time.

Nope. More of a Manc/Yorks thing I think. Dick I use quite a lot, but that's different.

On a separate track I'd like to re-raise the Adam/Frankenstein controversy from earlier in the thread. Surely Si Pie is right - the monster's not saying "Your Adam"  meaning that his name is Adam, but drawing a comparison to himself (and his creation) with Adam of Adam'n'Eve fame. It's a literary device, dontcha know. I had that Brian Sewell in the back of me cab once

Aye 'me ducks' is a Yorkshire thing. I used to get called it all the time in Sheffield. Going to Barnsley and getting called 'me cock' was slightly more traumatic.

But then going to Barnsley is generally a bit traumatic anyway.

Isn't it to do with a book it reads. I forget what it's called but it's something to do with Adam in the context of how Paul D describes.

EDIT: Paradise Lost

“Remember that I am thy creature: I ought to be thy Adam, but I am rather the fallen angel . . .
Make me happy, and I shall again be virtuous.”

Booo my quotathalon didn't catch on. I reckon I could have found/remembered some other ace ones.

I thought I was on for a few with Khalil Gibran, but he generally sounds like a bit of pretentious twat. I did quite like the righteous sound of...

"Yesterday We Obeyed Kings And Bent Our Necks To Emperors. Today We Kneel Only To Truth."

... but it's not really true (there's some irony in there). I did think of saving it up for a joke where I replaced "Truth" with something, probably a reference to the cult of the celebrity or the sensationalism in the the tabloid (and the rest) media. Not really very funny, and way over my head as far as clever quotaging humour goes.
