I'd argue that football is a team sport and the Messi has been kind of let down whereas Ronaldo has been around a better set of players.

I'd say Messi is if I had to choose between the two - but there's so much we don't know about players beyond England, Italy and Spain. I won't adhere to choosing one on the basis of the most documented leagues.

To be honest this could just go on all night. It depends what you deem necessary to be the best in the world. You can judge just by statistics, and i'll admit ronaldos are phenomanal, but he just lacks that something. Best player in the world for me needs to be someone who when the chips are down and the odds stacked against them, they turn the match with a piece of individual brilliance, in the big games.
