Still lives in Shrivenham, feels he has unfinished business with us, wouldnt cost the earth wages wise, still has talent (scored 4 goals in 10 games for Burton in L1 last season, 6 in 26 in total) is fairly versatile, a consumate professional, fits the bill.

It'll always be rumoured with him in the area. Its a player who I think would fit and even at 33 hes producing at a decent rate. Would certainly prefer him to Sinclair! But if we can't afford him then I guess thats that.

Moosehead suggested we wouldn't be able to afford his wages....which would be a shame, although not surprising...

According to the Swindonian web site we are about to sign 26 year old midfielder Darren Oldaker on a free from Chesterfield.

Quote
The Swindonian understands that Swindon Town boss Ian Holloway has agreed a contract with Chesterfield midfielder Darren Oldaker, paving the way for the 26-year-old to become the club’s next signing of the summer.

Oldaker, who cut his teeth in Queens Park Rangers’ academy, has carved out a reputation as a reliable and technically sound midfielder, having enjoyed spells with Gillingham, Billericay Town, Dorking Wanderers, and most recently Chesterfield in League Two.

The West London-born player made his senior debut with Gillingham after progressing through the youth ranks. A string of appearances and four goals for Dorking Wanderers in their 2021–22 promotion season helped thrust him back into the Football League spotlight, eventually earning him a move to Chesterfield where he became a central figure, tallying 79 appearances and 7 goals over two seasons.

Sources close to the club suggest Holloway sees Oldaker as a crucial component in his midfield rebuild, valuing his versatility, composure on the ball, and growing Football League experience. With Swindon looking to inject both energy and control into the middle of the park, Oldaker could well be the piece that knits the side together.

Final confirmation from the club is expected in the coming days, but barring any late hitches, Oldaker looks set to be unveiled at the County Ground before pre-season preparations kick off.

Swindon Town fans will no doubt welcome the arrival of a player whose journey through the leagues has been grounded in perseverance and professionalism — key traits Holloway is reportedly prioritising as he reshapes the squad.

Now reported in Derbyshire times as well. Set to sign today apparently.

Notts and Gillingham also had interest

Have to admit I dont remember him, but do we need another midfielder if Ofoborh is likely to sign? He appears to be a defensive midfielder who can take a free kick and has a powerful shot.
