What always surprises me is how little our current strikers feed off Smith, and his flick ons. Smith wins like 80% of the balls fired up to him in the air, but there's almost never a Drinan or Glatz running off him, they're always miles away. I feel like a more instinctive striker would stay close to Smith and feed from his flick-ons. Hopefully this guy can do that.

Saw this listed on BBC sport - you would hope if there are players of talent on our doorstep then you would think they would have been spotted or someone tipped off....but then this is stfc so clearly not...it would require a but of joined up thinking

Norwich, Coventry, Swansea and Peterborough are among the EFL clubs keeping tabs on teenage Wales midfielder Joe Andrews, who plays for non-league Chippenham. (Football Insider, external)

Yep exactly - this club always seem to be unaware of any local players that may come good

Tshimanga, Drinan and Glatzel don't score goals. In this system anyway.

We need goals to stay in the league.

Obviously correct but I was surprised to see only Cheltenham have scored more goals than us in the bottom half of the table while only Newport and Accrington have conceded more.

In fairness, that sentence clearly implies other clubs are looking at him and we could be one of them. He only signed for Chippenham last summer.

And everyone knows the best place in Karachi is at a football club that doesn't exist to play football matches.

And looking at that list of clubs, we'd be absolutely miles off being able to compete with 3 Championship clubs and a league 1 outfit.

Maybe we got him on the cheap - that's why he has been signed, wasn't it suggested by Holloway that 2 were signing

I'd presume this lad was the other signing.

Maybe a choice between a possibly quicker path to first team football or better money & an uncertain existence in a stockpile of promising talent.
Always the option of one step forward two steps back from there though.
So, yeah, we wouldn't stand much of a chance given our current status in the food chain.
Only hope is to catch them young & wait for a bigger fish to come calling.

Lets not kid ourselves, the prospect of earning more in a couple of years by being in that Elite Academy than you may ever do in the lower leagues is far too enticing for kids.  The coaching you receive is better, if the gamble pays off you are set, but even if it doesn't you likely have a few good earning years before needing to decide what comes next.

For the sake of balance, Billy Kirkman is a great example of us doing well looking for uncut gems in the lower reaches.

Unless this kid is amazing, he would know that he's not going to be playing first team football for any of those teams, but he gets to train at state of the art training grounds at well run professional clubs, and I assume will be part of a pathway to the first team that will involve loans to get first team football.

I've no idea the motivation behind a young footballer these days and if he wanted to start at the bottom and work his way up, signing for Swindon is a good stepping stone. But when you look at the facilities at Swansea, Coventry and Norwich, it's absolutely worlds apart from where we are. And it's not that long ago that we were on the same playing field as these teams, sad to say.

No I think he’s looking to sign a defender/utility player to fill the kirkman gap
