Nichols EOS loan.

I'm delighted to have Tom with us, he brings a blend of experience playing nearly 500 carer games. Tom will give us exactly what we haven't got, which he'll have. He'll be a face, he'll be a front. I could play him in two, and I can play him in three. I could play him as a proper, real ten because he is a player who will make runs in beyond, but he holds the ball up for us.

Don't think that bodes well for Glatzel, Butterworth or McGurk, but we'll see.

Glatz for me needs a fresh start, maybe as a loan, McGurk needs starts so he can stay at Yeovil a few months to get match fit. Butterworth I just dont think hes good enough, great close skills but always wants 1 too many touches, much like Keshi Anderson was. Gets in great positions but his decision making under any form of pressure (and when not under pressure too) is poor.

OOC at the end of the season? If so and he does well, stays injury free could be a perm for next season. If he want to play in the NL.

Bit underwhelming but if he can produce the form he was in at Crawley he could do well.

He obviously needs to be played in the right role to get the best out of him.

At Rovers he was not played in his best role and Rovers were on a downward spiral too at the time which game him a goals to game rate of 1 goal every 23 games.

At Exeter his rate was 1 every 3 games.

At Peterborough he got 1 goal every 4 games, the same rate at Crawley too.

At Gills it was 1 goal every 6 games.

At Mansfield it was 1 goal every 8 games.

That said he has still scored 1 goal every 4.5 games over a 500 game career.

It would be silly for anyone to write him off early (not suggesting you are doing that). I think it will be entirely down to the role he plays as he blatantly isnt a shit player with that many games under his belt as long as hes utilised correctly by Holloway.

His career suggests he's a solid League Two pro, which considering the short term goal is to build a solid League Two team is no bad thing. He's not the future, but we're not about the future right now.

A lot of Drinan last January about this signing.

I stumbled across the twitter post where Crawley announced they'd sold Nichols to Gillingham and their fans were in uproar. Many described him as their best player.

So certainly seems like he offers more than *just* goals. Which is a relief looking at his record.

Mansfield fans seem to appreciate his skillset even though thats not always scoring goals, almost all wishing him well here he just didnt suit their style of play.

Don't think that bodes well for Glatzel, Butterworth or McGurk, but we'll see.

Glatzel - been absolutely garbage this year. For whatever reason he just hasn't hit the heights of last season
Butterworth - his gem of a goal earlier this season at Accrington aside, to me he's a good dribbler of the footballer without any other helpful attributes. Often ends up down a blind alley
McGurk - Mysterious really. He doesn't get a lot of minutes but when he has played, he has looked pretty good. There has to be more to it? Or are we just biased as he's pinged in a couple of beauties which make him look quite the player, when in fact he's pony?

As for Nichols, it's easy to look at the fact he's a striker with a 1 in 5 goalscoring rate over nearly 500 matches and instantly suggest it's a poor signing, but he's more of a creative/link type player and offers lower league experience. I'm going to stick my head above the parapet and say he'll be a really good signing. Time, of course will tell when I'll be wrong!  Grin

Got a name?
One is a striker and the other is at Palace - that’s all I know unfortunately.
