A man at the match yesterday said he has been texting Clem and we are apparently signing a winger next week who Holloway has been constantly asking Clem if we can get the funds for. He also said Holloway would allow 8 players out and will aim to bring 3 in.
I mean - I remember banging on in pre-season about getting in a winger or wide forward just to give us options with regards to formation but Holloway has managed to get the 352 to look ok with the players we have. Not sure breaking the bank to get a winger in would help at this point.
Nor would giving Holloway the powers to move 8 players out. Regardless of how Holloway does I still get the feeling this is a very short term appointment & I’m not sure he will be here once the season ends.
I mean in all honestly - I’d rather plod along to safety with what we have & rebuild in the summer (hopefully under new owners) from bottom to as close to the top as possible.
If I were doing the January shopping it would be a goal keeper first & foremost. Then a striker with a bit of pace about him. With hopefully only Freckleton & Barden going back. Undecided on Tshimanga probably give him a few more games. Would not lose massive amount of sleep if Grant Hall was sent packing but with Minturn injured (…and Hall has looked better recently) I don’t think it’s an option.
We’ve probably got a 15th to 17th placed squad & Holloway has got them playing to their strengths & abilites (ie not dicking around with it at the back because we aren’t anywhere near good enough to do that)
Sad state of affairs but for me it feels what we’ve got currently is as good as it’s gonna get under the current owners.
I think giving the keys to Holloway to do a massive mid season rebuild is foolish. Even if he pulls it off, ships out some deadwood & brings in better - it would probably only take us from a 15th place team to a 12th place team…
