I dunno. I thought we needed a different type was needed - even if Austin was fit it gives something else to worry about if it's not working.

But look, he could be fantastic. still a punt!

I do worry about wakeling though

How can a shirt number bother you ffs.

How can it not bother you?

Agreed. He does not deserve the Bandit avatar

No one is truly deserving of the Bandit avatar. It’s an unattainable level.

Its Austin back up really isn't it? Just hope Austin is fit for the 2 Bradford games.
Hes not an Austin style striker, hes far more like Wakeling or even RHM, quick and plays as a wide striker cutting inside with pace.

Adds depth up front, even if it isn't a massively exciting signing

Thought Flynn would want a big/physical striker rather than more of the same.

Now for the 2 cb's please. Thats far more important for the immediate games than the back striker.

Also the number triggers me, why take 7 when 9 is available!

So would we say the forward line is now done with 4 of them?

We’ve got Kemp and possibly Shade who could play as a 10, maybe even Wakeling and Young.

Midfield is reasonably strong as well, with Khan, Cain, Kinsella, McEachran

So we need CB’s and LWBs urgently and then we are just filling the squad.

From what I've heard of pre season it sounds much more like a high energy intense man to man marking system than it does goofball Newport Flynn' tactics - if it is that, two nippier strikers could absolutely work together (and Austin could be a bit of a restricting factor to be honest)

Number 9 is still available so I reckon we will see another striker at some point. As others have said, I’m not sure if Wakeling is rated and can see us cashing in (if anyone is interested in spending money on him) or loaning him out if a big striker option became available.

I heard the club was retiring the number 9 jersey as the last incumbent made such a huge and historical significance on STFC with his performances.

Seems he started well at Bradford, but had a falling out with Hughes. His loan spell at Barrow does not make for great reading, but definitely looks an adequate back up to Austin. He did okay as a bit part player for FGR in their title winning season.

I think defence still urgently requires work, and work before Saturday.

Then I suspect we're going to have to work with Premier league teams for the remaining loan slots to fill up the squad. I've noticed a few Prem loans have started to drift down the leagues so hopefully we can get involved sooner rather than later.
