Unless Kelly wants a tiny wage I can’t see it happening either. We have loads of CMs now so surely it’s up top and maybe another defender that will be incoming.

We don't know what our current wage bill is or what Kelly (or anybody else) might be offered, and there's always loopholes to take advantage of if needed. There's lots of assumptions being made.

Garner says he wants a small squad. At the moment there seems to be a few places on the bench to fill. An impact sub to change the game and another in the Simpson mold have got to be a must.

I'd forgotten about Odimayo and seeing Critchlow looking pretty good made me wonder about how are we going to accommodate everyone. Read and East have presumably been bought to play.

Looks to me as if there will be limited opportunities for Baudry, Hunt and Iandolo. Having said that, they all played well on Saturday.

Perfection is not attainable

Fair enough. I just saw that Kelly was still training with the side at Supermarine on Friday so figured he was just part of the process of rolling out signings.

Oh he could well be an option still, he looked good quality but I would guess he wants more in wages than your average L2 player and we need to strengthen other areas as a priotiry, if after we have them filled then who knows, we may have enough budget left for bringing him in.

As it stands though I doubt he is a priority signing now.

I know clubs have their own individual playing budgets but is the salary cap not being used any more? I’m sure I read somewhere it had been scrapped.

I know they scrapped the most recent addition to the salary cap where you can only spend £1.5m in L2.

But the previous one (the FFP) I understand is still active, that teams in L2 can only spend 55% of all expected turnover on wages. L1 is set at 60%.

With the size of our squad I don't think anyone will be totally lacking game time.

Someone on Facebook claiming to have been told by someone within the club that a Louis Thompson return is complete. Know the reports were he has agreed to sign a pay as you play deal at Pompey, but that hasn't been announced yet and may have been scuppered by their signing of Joe Morell.

Louis would add more balance to our midfield and is someone else to cover the gritty side for Grant.
