Perfection is not attainable

Obviously many different factors contribute towards how a player performs. Team style, man management, feeling settled and happy etc.

All we can do is welcome him and wish him well.

Newport fan seems to have formed a strong opinion on 7 games for me. Don't see how it's a huge gamble either. He's not been brought in on huge wages to fire us into League 1.
Indeed, they formed an opinion on 7 games spell the last of which wa splayed more than a year ago, he may have developed since then, on paper he seems to be exactly the type of player Wellens is after, strong, quick and young with a solid grounding for development.

I am cautiously optimistic on his signing. But then I am always optimistic with new signing unlike many Town fans seem to be.

How many have written him off already? the last player written off before signing was probably Theo Robinson who a couple of "footballing encyclopedias" had down as an absolute failure before he even kicked a ball for the club, and they were definately wrong.

It’s exactly the same type of signing Kyle Knoyle was 2 years ago. But some people seem to forget that.

Yeah, but tbh would you rather have Knoyle or an unknown replacement

The exact opposite of Koiki. Mix ‘em together and you’d have a decent FB

I'll put a couple of quid on Reid not being our only/first choice RB going into opening day. It's a development gamble and adds to our depth at FB. If KK leaves, we know we need 2 RBs.

How many have written him off already? the last player written off before signing was probably Theo Robinson who a couple of "footballing encyclopedias" had down as an absolute failure before he even kicked a ball for the club, and they were definately wrong.

I guess you mean me.... my take questioned Wellens assertion that Theo scored in " batches"  I suppose the definition could be nebulous but for me means runs of say 4 in 5/6 that sort of thing.  Theo did manage  back to back goals in Feb and then April/May sandwiching another pair in March... definitely steady.

Further I suggested this might be the case....

Quote
I'm not expecting a magic wand, he's going to make a lot of mistakes... they all do. The key though is seeing some improvement as a result of your decisions... this particularly in our case applies to the home form, if Theo can get say 4 goals at the CG by May, perhaps we could win 4 games, the sort of minimum requirement. Let's hope it starts on Tuesday

Theo did manage to score in 4 home games... and we got 3 wins and a draw, and another win when he didn't score v ColU.  So meeting the sort of minimum requirement but no more.

I don't think anybody had him down as an absolute failure, but there's little point in doing anything other than looking at the stats etc and being realistic.

Don’t want any grief later, but I think Devitt is on his way here. Not sure when.

Carlisle fans seem resigned to losing him to somebody.

Their local journo thinks he is heading south - and, I think, that of the clubs supposedly interested in him we are the only one.

Mind you, most everywhere is south from Carlisle.

General consensus is he's ours. General consensus also appears to be that we're paying decent money this year. Goodish budget, and prioritising players properly.

Devitt won’t be cheap, for sure. If we also get Bennett in that will be serious wonga for us.

Bennett is a decent Div4 player but he's not worth top div 3 money the Gas are apparently paying.   I'd say its unlikely to be a perm in this window, a loan seems more likely.  Then perm in Jan when we can offer a longer term on less dosh.
