Sky sports saying Barnsley have released Jay Mceveley. Is it a done deal?

Not that it really matters now, but as we have him on loan is he still available to play on Saturday as now he is a free agent, or do we have to sign him?

And for what it's worth I agree that we should sign him, he has played well since joining.

Nothing has changed, other than Barnsley telling him he won't be offered a new contract. So he's free to sign with someone else when his contract expires, if not before.

I like Mceveley. Didn't have the best game at the Gills or Wembley. But he's getting better and better. Just don't expect him to be as attacking as Caddis.

Really? The guy is championship standard. Great quality on the ball, not the best going forward but makes up for it defensively. We'd be hard pushed to find a better left back than him for league one IMO.

This. He's settled into a back four that I wouldn't want to change next season. We'll need a few decent squad players (especially a right back) who can step in when needed.

Really?! I don't think you'll find a good left back who's played 30 games in the championship on a freebie like we have in McEveley.

He's like a younger, better Jamie Vincent.

Very steady if unspectacular and not too forward thinking.

Would be pleased if we get him.  Shows a lot more composure on the ball than both Cibocchi and Kennedy who tend to hoof it forward if there is no one next to them.

McEveley played only 7 times to earn his medal, that could be an indication of having a long term future.

More than comfortable at a higher level, if he's up for it then we'd be silly to turn him away.

There is no left back in the world who fits this criteria

Thats a little overly optimistic. Or your expectation of who you THINK we can sign and who we can actually sign are a few hundred miles apart.

A total of 12 players are out of contract and McInnes is expected to announce a major clear-out as he attempts to free up funds for a summer signing spree.

Like Carey and McAllister, 41-year-old goalkeeper David James has probably played his last game for the Robins and League Two champions Swindon Town are rumoured to be interested in the former England No 1. The highest paid player on the Ashton Gate staff, James recently lost his place to Dean Gerken, whose performances towards the end of the season helped City stave off relegation.

Local Bristol rag are peddling the David James rumour.
