I'm glad I placed this in the rumours, it was just Nathan's cunt of a housemate dicking around with his phone.
Sort of thing that probably won't go down too well bearing in mind Nick Watkin's comments about Twitter before the season started.

COVENTRY CITY appear to have missed out on transfer target Cody McDonald. The Norwich City striker - who was a huge success on loan at Gillingham - is believed to be on the verge of signing for Franchise. The news is a huge blow to Sky Blues' boss Andy Thorn, who had turned his attentions to the 25-year-old after missing out on Adam Le Fondre last week. McDonald has been on City's wanted list all summer and has also been tracked by the likes of Oldham, Peterborough and Sheffield Wednesday. Swindon Town also put in a "significant bid" for the goalscorer only to see the deal collapse. And the Telegraph understands that McDonald is set to sign for Franchise before the transfer window closes later this week. http://www.coventrytelegraph.net/coventry-city-fc/coventry-city-fc-news/2011/08/29/coventry-city-miss-out-on-second-striker-target-92746-29322752/#ixzz1WRBAyFyP

Paolo did say in the press that Cody McDonald was our No. 1 target and that we had made a good bid for him but he had turned us down as he wanted to pay at a higher level. Di Canio went on to reveal he has missed out on sealing deals for three targets.
Along with the well publicised move for former Dover Athletic star Adam Birchall, who moved to Gillingham, BBC Wiltshire understands Swindon also attempted to sign Norwich striker Cody McDonald and former Reading frontman David Mooney, who joined Leyton Orient last month.
"We were close to signing three English players but in the end they had more expectations, and one wanted more money so they didn't go through," admitted Di Canio.
"To one, we offered an amazing amount of money but I understand this player preferred to look at Championship sides.

Is this a journo getting confused? Franchise have just signed Charlie McDonald from Brentford and I can't see any other refs to Cody going there.

Not a rumour, more a suggestion, but re the defence, I wouldn't mind seeing us going in for Stephane Zubar, again former Plymouth, Rated him when I saw him play.

Chance of onloan striker from PL.... Started for PL team first game of season took a knock, fit now tho, champ team after him but his team would rather send him to us were he would get game time.

"Town23" found Neil Blackman as a possibility from Blackburn, who might fit the bill? http://thetownend.com/index.php/topic,45087.msg995627/topicseen.html#newA quick search brings up an interesting quote... “ It’s difficult, you’re putting on Nick Blackman who hasn’t played a full match. Mark Bunn is the only one on the substitutes bench who has played a full Premier League game.
“It’s difficult for the young guys and there’s more who are out there on the pitch. "They’re all quality players but you don’t envisage having them all out there at the same time.” http://www.lancashiretelegraph.co.uk/sport/football/9195641.Emerton_blow_adds_to_pain_for_Blackburn_Rovers/

Even with Clarke going i really dont see the need for another striker.
Clearly more defensive cover is required.

If I was one of their lot I'd be wondering why on earth their most potent threat up front was seemingly being pushed out of that club?
