The thing that worries me slightly is how much Holloway has talked about the budget being smaller & Sam mentioning in one piece that he also wants to make sure he leaves some of that for any January deals that are needed. And the fact he's been talking about not signing players with injury records any more. If we're targeting senior players, without history of being crocks, who have been club captains etc they're going to, rightly, demand higher wages. How does Holloway bring in those sorts without severely limiting himself for the size of his actual first team? I'm all for giving our kids a chance to prove themselves but McGregor & Ameen are rarities and 99% of first year pros are not ready to step into the first. The last thing we want is a repeat of Flynn's time and once 5/6 injuries hit we're having to play kids. For me I'd want to see a first team squad of around 22, which will hopefully include the 2nd year pros being now ready to step up. Then the 1st years out on loan at a decent level to get toughened up so if they do need recalling they're closer to being ready. But then at this level, with a tight budget, that would limit us to low cost loans who have to play if fit no matter how poorly they're doing and cloggers who aren't good enough to be challenging for promotion. So probably a good thing it's Holloway and not me in charge.

It's all guesswork boydy. No idea what the budget really is or who we have removed from the wage list to give more wiggle room.
Talk is just talk until we see faces through the door

TBH my interpretation is that Holloway is doing a lot of his budget negotiation with the board publicly via the media and frankly prioritising players who are not made of glass will make a refreshing change from the policy of the last few years!

Last summer Delaney, Hall and Wright were announced early. Just not much experience after.
While it looks loike it was experience first, that isn't actually why it happened that way. Defenders tend to be first, because they are the cheapest of players. You would be surprised to see how little Delaney/Wright particularly were on at former clubs. The players that can demand the most wages tend to move later in the window, unless you have a bottomless pit of money to throw at them.

A Carlisle fan linking us with Sam Lavelle. Not sure signing the main CB from a team that conceded 152 goals in the 2 seasons he has been there and been relegated twice (and having played almost every game in that time) would be a good idea TBH.

I can't quote on this thread for some reason, re. Lavelle...could be a Grant Hall replacement? 28, good age...
You can quote mate but you can't quote from posts that include banned link e.g. telegraph and x.com in them as this one has.

He was also the main CB in a League Two promotion winning side so it goes both ways tbh Godwin-Malife was in a side last season that conceded 83 goals yet we know he was a good full back and ended up in League One.

No issue with it at all, but out of interest why are links from Twitter and the Torygraph banned? I can't reply on topics I start (Tapatalk that is), but I can via browser
Tapatalk seems to be a law unto itself, sometimes it just randomly comes up with something about moderators removing threads when they plainly haven’t!

He was also the main CB in a League Two promotion winning side so it goes both ways tbh
Swings and roundabouts but his only promotion was via the play offs 4 years ago. Cant say I am convinced in signing a non league defender TBH.

Twitter tends to be a giant pain for people who don't have accounts, so it's a bit of a rubbish thing to link out to now. Telegraph is paywalled as well, so I imagine a similar thing.

Does that work when Clems supporters hear something different and tell you he meant something different anyway?
