Morshead on Twitter reckons Kinsella was only on a one-year deal with us:

Liam Kinsella: Cheltenham offered 18-month deal but no fee, out of contract in Swindon this summer. No indication of extension.

Town seem to have done well by Kinsella in allowing him a free (personal circumstances also involved).

Medical done, confirmation imminent.

It’s looking more and more likely Flynn walked after realising what was about to happen.

Was Kinsella touted by the club as being available on a free?

He did , in the same way Lindsey did. January sell off to pay the mysterious bills.

I did muse this earlier in the thread - contract length not confirmed at time of signing.

He's done well. Staying in area, up a league, probably upped pay (at Cheltenham FFS) and he had a kid in November.

We need to replace though (obvs).

Thing is though - if he was on a one year deal and if either party was no interest in extending beyond that year - then the club should just come out and bloody motherfucking say that.

It’s bloody simple:

Club say L1 club have come in for Kinsella, his contract runs out in the summer and there is no interest in extending said contract. In light of this we have taken the decision that it’s in the best interests of the club to allow Kinsella to leave - freeing up more opportunities for players contract beyond next season (soapy tit wank do we have any?) & giving us ample opportunity to look for replacements.

Even if I’ve fluffed that out & the club just said the important bit.

Warning tangent
It’s what massively fucked me off about the sale of Greer (other than you know the sale of Greer) if the club had offered him a contract extension and publicly said as much - then when Greer did go to Brighton the narrative could easily be spun (maybe even truthfully) in the clubs favour.

We offered Greer a new extended contract, he decided he did not want to enter negotiations. Due to these circumstances we feel it’s in the best interests of the football club to allow Greer to move onto Brighton for the transfer fee offered.

You have no arguments from me.

Plus, given we don't have a permanent manager, who is making the descision to relesae and why.

giving us ample opportunity to look for replacements.

But they won't. And they know that we know they won't.

Recruitment strategy seems to be calling up some academy connections and asking who they're planning to have a difficult conversation with in June, and offering to alleviate that burden immediately. Then the plums will cry "Liverpool though! Ex United! Premier League! Quality signings! Prospects!"

Jamie "The Invisible Man" Russell, if we believe the official line.

Cain, UGM, Minturn, Dworzak, Aguiar officially announced. Have to assume Bycroft, Johnson and Glatzel are on more than six month deals too, but who knows.

All good fun isn’t it.

Minturn, Khan, Cain? Who else could we shift?

Minturn and one other I reckon. Probably Khan if I was a betting man.

If Kinsella is in our first XI or a credible squad option (which he is) and we’re 14 points off the bloody Conference and in free fall, then we shouldn’t sell, unless it’s as simple as “sell Kinsella, get someone better.” But when did that last happen?

I wonder what the 'personal circumstances' are that allow us to let Kinsella move to a club 30 miles down the road. Perhaps he has a horse racing addiction.

He doesn’t want a relegation to non league on his CV.
