It's very much looking like one in, one out.

Very little maneuvering room for Flynn without doing this..I think it's a mistake, but would it be a bigger mistake not to get a CB with a bit of experience in? Probably.

In an ideal world we'd not be skint, and have quality competition for places. But here we are

And we've swapped a player we're struggling to fit into the line-up for one that plays in a position we really need to fill. Lavinier in his year at the CG has started less than 20 games and played at left back, centre back and midfield and not looked right in any of them.

I'm pretty sure we picked him up thinking we'd get an offer for Hutton in January. From what I remember he was a bit of a last minute grab when the young CB we were after at Spurs knocked us back.

He signed in September, not January.

I always thought he looked a better long term bet than Hutton, but think he had a few injuries and Hutton was getting the nod based on assists.

Not saying he was a world beater by any stretch, but his ability to play both full back/wing back roles is a hole we now have to replace, again.

We definitely needed the CB more than we needed Lavinier.

That’s not to say Lavinier was surplus to requirements & not needed in the squad.

Just the sheer fact it would appear our game plan massively hinges on an attacking RWB - you’re going to need adequate back up there. Say Hutton goes down injured for a month. Got fuck all cover.

If we sign this linked left winger/wing back and get Edwards/another CB in…. Will people stop thinking it’s one in one out, and be happier with Lavinier leaving?

Well yes, if we sign more players and grow the squad, I will definitely be happier with our squad. I think that applies to all but the most miserable, but the problem is the "if" at the moment.

Ultimately, I'll be happy when we are winning games and in the top 3 or pushing for it.

My views on squad size and competence count for nothing at the end of the day.

However, looking at it right now, we look a good 6 players short to my liking.  I think we need those in addition to what we have on the books, not with any others going out.  Any more leave and we need another body to replace them on top of those 6.  That is what I would want if I was in Flynn's shoes, in order to think I had a chance of achieving that goal.

He did but we all thought Hutton was on his way from last summer. I've always thought Lavinier was bought with that in mind.

Maybe, just maybe, Flynn has a strategy for his team that involves taking the player acquisition to late in the window in order to maximise the available budget. I’d say he’s still sat on a healthy wage budget and will use it well before the window closes.

Yes to point one.
No to point two.

CB & LWB in still leaves us short of adequate cover for Hutton & LWB, which Lavinier would have provided.

Lots of people are never happy!

Flynn has repeatedly did he wants 23/24 players. So I have every expectation by the time the window closes we will be at that number.

We now have 5 cbs so 1 more, which we know flynn is after an experienced physical cb.
For wing back we have devine, shade, Hutton. Devine is basically out, so we need a couple. With this crewe lad possibly the one on the left.
We have 5 midfielders, so 1 more?
We have 4 forwards so probably done there, apart them fact nobody has taken number 9.
Ward maybe?

So 4 more and a keeper and the squad numbers are there right?

It's taking longer than it should, but we are getting there. Then it's about if they are good enough or not.

Hutton only signed 6 weeks earlier, am I missing something?

If we have Edwards and that other law who can slot in to LWB coming in by mid day tomorrow then its looking better in short term, but we're still a few more short for a squad.

Think it was more we realised Shade was not a full back. First game at Harrogate was Hutton a LB, Shade at RB.
