We will never agree but that is only clear at the end of the season theres no way we know that now. If we win our first 4 games all this is forgotten, if we lose then yeah spot on
Yeah, that’s a fair take too. We’re going into a season were 1/3rd of the squad won’t have been here for pre season, and I fail to see how that sets a side up for success

Think letting Lavinier go is stupid…
Agree, a versatile young player who could be better than UGM in a year, silly gamble to me. What happens if Hutton gets injured?

We’re two days before the start of the season, and we’re 6/7 players short of Flynns ideal squad size.
With this transfer we will still be 6/7 players short
It’s such a daft way of running a football club
We'll keep signing players up until the window closes like we did last year, the year before that and you know every season since the windows were introduced. I can't remember the last time our squad was complete by the start of the season. Whenever it was I'll bet we weren't in the 4th tier when it happened. In this league, even with almost limitless funds you're often waiting on others to do their business first. Transfers are difficult and take stupid amounts of time. Everyone knew in January that Rice was going to Arsenal and roughly what they'd pay, but it still took about two months of the summer to get done. Kane wants to go to Bayern. They want to sign him. Spurs want to sell him to them rather than anyone in the PL. But still it drags on. And those are circumstances where the selling club aren't waiting to sign a replacement first and where the player is fairly clear on his preferred option. Add those to the mix and this is what you get.

Shade came to us as a winger/forward who had been moved to wing back the season prior. From what we’ve seen of him, that makes sense because I can’t pin him down to any one position. He’s fast and tricky but lacks the crossing ability and decision making to be a winger, he’s not quite a striker, lacks the defensive ability to be a wingback. He’s got enough talent and potential if he’s developed properly to take a punt on but whether or not that ever comes to fruition is another story. He’s the poster boy for modern day academy players, someone who has all the athletic ability and skills that makes someone stand out at academy level but lacks the fundamentals to nail down a single position well enough to start. Great flexibility as a squad option though, put him on the bench and he can cover across half the pitch in emergencies.

I got the impression and this is just my reading of what the manager said last night that Shade was one of the players he was disappointed in and that frustrates him, he has mentioned something along these lines previously in interviews.

What makes you think Edwards is a potential signing that could be captain/vice?

I’m not upset with the concept of signing players once the season has started I’m upset with the sheer volume and importance of those players we still need to sign at this point

Just what was said last night by the manager, He suggested in his response that one of those positions (Captain/Vice) were not decided and then he said the person(s) should be experienced and players that younger players looked up too. Then he said we needed an experienced big CB as we have been far too generous at the back in previous seasons with little height in that position. Edwards was captain at Dundee, is experienced and a unit by all accounts. Just me putting all the pieces together.. I maybe wrong..

A quick check on the Rich Banyard's site tells me that since transfers have been restricted to the (mostly) out of season window, as I suspected, the vast majority of our summer signings have been made in August and September.
In the the odd year when we get stuff done early, e.g. Phil Brown in 18/19 the signings aren't great. Though to be fair, except for Doughty, all Brown's signings that summer were shite no matter when he made them.

Supposedly good and much better in a back 3 but can play at RB which i think also covers the what if Hutton gets injured comments.

I generally don't have any sort of emotional response to players that are bad - they are not trying to be bad. Shade is just not that good at football. I think his athletic ability tied with being decent on the ball probably catapulted him above others at a younger age and he either simply didn't develop the necessary footballing nous, or he never had the ability to. Either way, it looks too late for him, in my opinion. Now he can't just bully his way through a game. He's a bit like Adeloye I suspect, will have lots of one and two season stints around this level as each next Manager thinks they can make something of him.
