Rather depends who he was replaced with wouldn't it....
I think a manager encouraging the club to sell its top scorer and talisman would be unforgivable under any circumstances.

Having lived in Newcastle in 1995 I would say not....

Using our advanced data analysis system, we have identified Tonton Zola Moukoko as the prolific striker we require
My favourite player in CM.

I wouldn't have an issue with selling McKirdy for good money given he has a year left on a contract and may well want a move.  However, the club would need to have a direct, ready to go replacement sat outside the CG doors for such an eventuality.

If the above came to pass, and he was replaced, that would also not negate the fact we are a striker short.  Not a young prospect who could be good next season, someone to lead the line this season.

Bit different, they replaced Cole with an upgrade and paid more money than they got for Cole. Can you really see us doing either of those things, and even then we’d still be the extra striker short that we were before.

Think it’s safe to say McKirdy has played his last game for us

Much rather we took a punt on Belarusian striker Maxim Tsigalko to be honest.

you want a data driven replacement for McKirdie?

It won't look pretty on the back of a shirt but from a data perspective its a shoe in...

Didn't replace him with anyone for 6 months yet the fans stuck by the manager.

Morfuni and Austin bought the club for a reason. Either:

* to sell on for a profit by achieving “sustainable success” (which means selling the value on the squad for profit and reinvesting that in good quality), or
* to sell on for a profit by stripping it back to the bones, having a contract for ground development in the bag, but a much better organised back office (with thanks to RA).

The next 36 hours will tell us which option they are pursuing. The Lindsey appointment may fit one of these models better than the other.

Power warned us Clem couldn't fund this club.

We didn't care, as we just wanted him gone.

May have been one of the few things he was right about though.

Or it may show an option c. where they receive an inflated offer for a potentially depreciating asset and due to timings don't have the time to reinvest that capital immediately?

Manager's name and performance are probably good context though.

I would be all for selling Mckirdy for decent (ish) money as long as we still bring in 2 strikers (1 striker/1 forward).  I don't agree with the talisman bit, a talisman doesn't spend his time suspended or throwing a strop on the pitch when things are not going your way.  If you are 16 yrs old, into wearing shades and bucket hats and spend most of your day on Insta, then i get it, but for me he is not our talisman - i don't think we have one at the moment.

Nobody was shouting for Mckirdy to be signed at the start of last season.  He slowly grew his way into the team and made himself critical with the way we played last season, but with a different set of players that kept him supplied.  Simpson, Payne, KKH, Barry, Davison, Reed and Williams just kept on feeding him and he would get plenty of chances - we have a very different team now and he is having to work harder to create his chances - hence I don't think you are going to see the same numbers from Harry this year as you did last.  With the situation we find ourselves in, Harry is a distraction that we could do without in my opinion - but only if he is replaced and added to.

My concern with all of the above is, do we have the people in the building capable of identifying the 2 forward players to replace Harry and fill the ominous gap in our forward line, and then coach them and develop them to score the numbers that Harry did last season - Jury is out on that one.
