Not wanted by a bang average non league side but wanted here? No thanks.
I think the wages weren't wanted by Chesterfield. Also, their forum (from back in January) suggested they have a replacement that the manager favours.

For someone who discusses the court case a lot you seem to neglect the fact that the consequence of it will almost certainly be lower budget players.

I suspect that most supporters will have realistic expectations this season

Is it definitely not wanted?
Or can’t afford? Or perhaps Evans wanted to move on and told the club as such.
Maybe he was offered something and decline?

Of course there are plenty of examples of players moving up a division and not being up to it. There are also plenty of examples of players moving up a division and doing just fine.

Again, seems bizarre you’re turning your nose up at Will Evans. When did you last watch him play?

As per most players, you look at their previous and make a judgement. I can’t see how a journeyman non league player will be just fine and dandy in L2.

Him and Grounds as our CB pairing is something to look forward to!

And, apparently Chesterfield didn’t offer him a contract. Not even a reduced one.

Under EFL rules don't we have to have at least 1 home grown player in the squad?

As Twine's gone that only leaves Ilandolo and Parsons.   In that context Evans makes sense as can do a job, isn't injury prone and you'd have thought would be in budget.

He's a local lad so I'd welcome him back.  Avoiding relegation is the aim after all, anything else is a bonus.

I suspect we will see one or two National League players and/or players with local Links (considering our new faces to date).

I have no objections RE: Evans. It is what it is.
And we are not what we were.

I agree we will see a few NL players I am sure, some are easily good enough for L2 anyway.

Grounds has played loads of games in Championship. Looking at his previous career he should have been an able L1 defender.

He wasn’t and I don’t even think he’ll be capable of going a job in L2

I don't think a single defender looked any good last season. It was a complete shit show back there, not helped with GK situation. Given we know how good/capable Hunt/Baudry/Conroy are in league 2, i expect Grounds under decent management to be pretty good next season.

We have to build a squad to consolidate our League status. That's where my sense of expectation and realism is at.

I don't know if Evans is of that caliber or not

Let’s be fair, there is a litany of players who went to a club under high hopes and expectation and bombed only to end up somewhere else and become a sensation.

Hang on, hang on!

Read the Chesterfield forum.

1. Evans is described as a 'clogger' or a 'no nonsense' head it and boot it away defender.
2. He was signed on a 3 year deal by the previous manager.
3. Current manager doesn't want that sort of defender
4. He came back into reckoning due to injuries and did well (improving his ball playing ability)
5. Chesterfield signed a ball playing replacement
6. Evans was thought to be on a lucrative 3 year deal
7. He was Chesterfield's captain

As for slating Grounds for last season......

The whole team was shite. The midfield was phenomenally lightweight and had noone who could win the ball back. The backline was porous, often because it was over run, and because it relied on a midfielder playing CB. The goalkeepers were pretty awful. We looked more solid when we had a keeper who could make the odd save when the defence made a mistake. We looked even better (that is a relative term) when we had an experienced keeper shouting at the defence.
