To be fair to the fella he has 2 goals in 5 appearances (one of which was of the bench) so its rather unfair to say he never showed much.
He started both the games he scored in and both at home so has a 100% home starting and scoring record.

I see Port Vale seem to think they are favourites to sign Nicky Maynard too, he has been seen training with them.

Thats a decent call. He often had good games against us in the past.

Freed by Shrewsbury and played in the same team as Hunt for Eire.

Wellens always talked like they had an older keeper in mind. The lad is 38 though, which is pushing the old thing to its limit probably.

Keepers can go on a lot longer in their careers than outfield players, hes obviously coming to the end of his professional career but would be a decent back up still. Loads of experience.

I'm always impressed with how everyone has tracked down viable targets from blurry photos.

I'd probably not spot Wellens if he walked past me in the street!

then again, I didn't recognise our next door neighbour once and they'd lived there over a year.

I have no chance.

I'd recognise most of our current players, some of our past players, and that's about it apart from the really big names. I wouldn't even be able to recognise half the England squad.

Decent 'keeper but was an absolute twat away at Scunthorpe in the 3-3 Cox hat-trick game, the stewards had to get involved I seem to remember.  I'm pretty sure it was that game at least.

Oh well, if it is him he'll be able back up.

I note that he has never played further south than Coventry so as a 38 year old might not be keen on possibly relocating for what would surely only be a 1 year contract.  Could just be he saw we were up north and asked for a bit of a workout?  Could not be him at all either.

Absolutely. And yes he was a twat but he is/was a decent keeper.

As you rightly say he may only be after getting fit, it may not be him, thats part of the fun of pre season for me.
