What happened to the rumours about Sid Nelson? Didn’t someone on here know his Dad or something like that?

They are planning to announce his signing as part of a triple swoop alongside Sheena Easton and Steve Lomas

I’m not sure how the word “marquee” has crept into football. It’s an Americanism, or a name for a big tent, not a big signing, surely?

I always assume it was a word in a football context to describe Ruddocks shorts?

Us, Oldham and Hibs after Jamie Devitt from Carlisle.

I think Brown was after him last pre season

Looking at this from a couple of standpoints -

based on his playing history, which has all been up north, that would make Oldham front runners for his signature.

I'm not sure, but Paul Heckingbottom who is the Hibs manager, may have played or managed Devitt before, which could make Hibs front runner for his signature.

He is Irish and with Power's current Irish dabble, that may make us front runner for his signature!

Is he any good?

Wiki says he's an attacking midfielder. Is he any better than what we already have?

A player who was among Carlisle's best last year, and they finished above us, so I'd say so.

I assumed it's an American corruption of marque... a word usually applied as a brand name for up market cars eg Ferrari, Masserati, Rolls etc

Have never got the tent connection the word implies... it is annoying. Another which is creeping up is "smarts"  wtf does that mean?   I guess Billy Smart's Circus in a marquee but who knows.

Apparently not, and it does indeed derive from the tent connotation, meaning a "leading or pre-eminent athlete with the ability to attract a large audience" i.e. one that would fill a marquee, being a larger tent than standard.

I’d question his ambition if he turns down the mighty Hibees

I see.... odd mind as even our 6000 is going to be over capacity for most marquees I've ever been in or seen.

I’d say he was an Anderson/Woolery type but with more end product. 11 goals and 8 assists last season. Just about the ideal player Wellens has been saying we need.

It's a turn of phrase, not meant to be literal. Suspect it refers back to the old American travelling shows ("We're going to need a bigger tent for this one" kind of thing). It's certainly American in origin.

Paul McCallum leaving Eastleigh. A very realistic, very good target to battle Theo for the number 9 shirt.
