The thing with County though is the wage cap issue, I have no doubt he would sign for them but how can they get around the 60% turnover wage cap? with an average gate of under 4,500 last season and not reaching 6,000 in the last 7-8 years.
With the average season ticket of around £200-280 unless they have a loop-hole they can get around then I just can't see it.
Lee Hughes and Ben Davies their new signings must be on a fair old wage already.

Peterborough got around it by Darragh McAnthony's (chairman) own company sponsoring them for well above the normal amounts I believe. Whether that loophole is still open, I don't know.

So when turnover is mentioned that includes any club sponsorship deals not just gate income and sales? I know it was an issue when we signed Ince that we were on the edge of the wage cap limit. If so then that makes sense.

He sponsered them for 3 million quid thereby allowing them to sign pretty much who they wanted.

I see we've got Yan Klukowski on trial. Chippenham lad (think he went to Sheldon School) was considered one of Wiltshire most promising Non-League youngsters before he quite sensibly went to the USA with Central Connecticut State University and did really well.
I was working with his cousin in Chippenham this week, who was telling me about his trial at Carlisle and how they let him go. Weird that he should then pop up here!

No harm in having a look at players, although it must be years since we've found one down the Lloyd Opara, Ben Martin, Mark Marshall, Darren Dykes, Charlie Griffin, Hamdi Razak, Ibon Arrieta route. I'm thinking Colin Gordon, Brian Wade as the last of their kind...could be wrong mind. I'm hoping that we are going to acquire a couple of proper strikers though and aren't going to make do and mend. Not yet time to panic, but it's not looking too clever right now.

I like to believe that the strikers Wilson has looked at thus far have been development and/or reserve players to add to the squad as opposed to direct replacement for Cox. You'd think that Cox's replacement will be a purchase from another club or a season-loan loan player at least. Wouldn't you?

Jan was in my sons team when they played for Chippenham Town U10's. He was far & away the best player, in the team & a nice lad. Nut has no bearing really on what he would be like now as a ro player

The last decent ones I can remember were Colin Gordon and Wadey and Peter Coyne (although Coyne started at a big club and drifted to non-league with Hyde United)

It used to be quite a steady way to get players...for example Rod Thomas came from Gloucester City and Mossy from Witney Town...2 seriously good players. I suppose both took a while to get up to speed playing reserve football etc...doubtless the old Football Combination was a much better testing ground than the pointless reserve stuff we have today.

The reserves did used to be a much better standard of football under the Combination, playing against the likes of Arsenal, Spurs, West Ham etc who often used to include first team players rather than the cost cutting local lower league teams we play against now.
I remember back in the early 80's when Spurs brought down Hoddle, Crooks, Hazard and several other first team players for a reserve game and we had 5,000 turn up to it on a Saturday afternoon at the CG.
Lou Macari and Bobby Smith did like to bring in local players and sometimes they did work but its all too rare these days.
Not so much Roy of the Rovers stuff now.

It's an interesting subject for debate...back in the days of 4 figure crowds for reserve games, you could have a striker who maybe piled up some impressive figures and forced their way into the reckoning. Now though they more or less need to be able to make the jump straight away....
