Looks like we have a good chance of landing this Mawson fella according to Sam's twitter.

Fee to be set by tribunal.

Let's not forget, we have a fair bit of cash knocking around what with transfer fees plus the PO money.

We aren't the paupers some would have us believe

Another thing in our favour is that he'd be more likely to be assured of 1st team football with us, whereas with Millwall he may end up a squad player.

Some good goals but a lot of those basically had defenders that didn't appear to even try.

Should be at home in League one then

We are not paupers but we do have a clearly defined wage structure that I'd be surprised if Mawson fits within.

Mawson's had one good season in L2 while on loan from Brentford (for whom he has never played a league game). How much is this guy on for goodness sake!?!

The guy is from an hour down the road, will be guaranteed first team football while picking up a decent wage.

Is it that naive to suggest that could be enough to lure a lower league player?

Not naive at all - he's wanted by clubs at our level with, we assume, larger playing budgets. If we can persuade him that we're the best long term option footballing wise then we of course have a great chance of signing him, and he fits our profile of target well. Here's hoping.

Could be down to length of contract rather than annual wage. Offering say a year more than Millwall, plus certain get-out clauses, could make the difference.

Still, I'd be surprised if we got him ahead of Millwall.

Indeed, and the locality of playing for a club 10 miles away rather than one 70 miles away could be a decider.

According to the adver Mawson is putting his development ahead of money. In which case, I think that puts us in the driving seat for his signature.

I thought that was obvious (and I pointed it out a few pages back).

If he was interested in the money he'd have signed the contract on offer from Brentford.

Think this is when we start to see if our track record of developing kids will pay off in recruitment.
