So if Clough was sacked on monday and the bid was in and accepted before then and the player knew about it, its hardly ideal prep for the play off final is it?
If I was a cynical, pessimistic person I'd suggest that quite a few of those on the pitch Sunday knew it was their last game for us and played as if it meant fuck all to them.

Never have and never will buy into the idea the players didn't try their hardest cos they might be leaving - 99.9% of cases it's bollocks.

Must be another reason for them not turning up then....

you can't become a pro by not wanting to win.

not many a player would consciously not try. subconsciously though something made them bottle it. probably an early goal and the same 'here we go again " feeling us fans had. or something not right behind scenes.

still angry we leaned nothing from the number of dickings we took during the run in though.

This is what I think, not a fully happy ship, seemed to stem from somewhere between Kasim and Mass returning and Cooper being linked to Barnsley. It seems to have gone to pot since then.

teams can just lose form. though they looked the opposite of up for it on Sunday, which is nothing to do with form.

I just can shake off Agombar starting though..

I think people can make up anything to try and explain something and this thread is a prime example.

Agombar still being at the club hurt me. Power should have just paid the rest of his contract up as soon as the Jed courtroom dealings were sorted.

John Mills.

50 odd goals for Didcot last season.
And when we play Crewe in February he'd be ideal for Ice Cold in Alex (for older TEFers)

So were Sheff Utd/Clough actually in for? Smith? Williams? Smith and Williams? The entire strikeforce?

The Adver ran a story on Williams move to Sheff Utd being called off when Clough was sacked, but then it is the Adver (and the story seems to have been removed. They are hopeless).

Not going to happen. The sooner we all realise this the better. We'll spend money in small amounts on good young players that should improve in value. Much more change of signing a George Moncur than, say, Stephen Dawson who's just gone to Scunthorpe.

And that's the way it should be too.

Re Smith -  as much as I like him, fully expect Obika and Hylton to be front-line strikers. 600k for him is great value. Spend 25% of that on his well-scouted replacement. It's what we do now.

Agree, Smith was an absolute Ox at Wembley and his touch hasn't improved. He knows where the goal is at this level mind you so I think a half a million pound profit shouldn't be sniffed at.

Smith wasn't as advanced, Williams was pretty much a done deal.

Smith is so hit and miss, on his day hes very good on a bad day he is the worst player on the pitch, I would take what we paid Charlton for him....around £200k and cut our losses.
