It's not really the fact that 4-5-1 didn't work (even though I thought in some games it worked fine, others it didn't, and other games such as Sheff Utd away we should have utilised it) it's the fact that people couldn't grasp the concept that we had a new manager, and he didn't play the same system. Yes the 4-4-2 system we played was very successful, but that was Paolo's team. Surely if you want to aim some criticism then some must go to the board for not appointing someone more like PDC?

I don't know, but I thought a lot of the criticism MacDonald received was unfair. We were getting close to fans shouting "WHY AREN'T YOU DI CANIO!".

They must have hated those 2˝ season under Hoddle.

We still played 2 up front...

I've been watching the England U 20's playing in the FIFA tourney in Turkey...it's fascinating.

We haven't won a competitive match at this finals level since 97, when Michael Owen scored v someone or other....and after 2 games here still haven't...something like 16 matches.

A lot of the lads playing have a bit of Prem experience or top end Championship...and they want by nature to play direct football, it's how they've been brought up, this is partly because it's what fans in England demand. The devious Johnny Foreigner...like Iraq in the first game, play slow possession football, with an attempt to inject some pace at the business end.

Our boys are big and strong, so can be effective on set pieces....but just like the seniors, when it's hot as it invariably seems to be for summer tournaments, when they try and play at a slow tempo, haven't the technical abilty to do much more than repeatedly give the ball away.

Because we play cold climate football, the emphasis is always on physical players who are big and strong, especially in the lower leagues...which explains why someone like Flint is a desirable player. Trying to get a change overnight, which in effect KMac attempted is naive in my book....it will be interesting to see if he attempts a side stuffed with small slghtly technically OK players, because it's a very difficult task.

Was at Sheff U last season and didn't set the division on fire.

Think in the right team he will score plenty though.

1 in 3 last season, pretty standard.

Could tear a hole in League 2 sadly

Jeez, how the mighty have fallen.  Prem to Lge 2 in about 4 seasons.

Moosehead tweeted it..

I thought the wink was satisfactory to show that I wasn't necessarily doubting tans, but he does have a reputation as a wind-up merchant and I was attempting to play on that.

This on the transfer rumours site, there can't be any truth in this surely, but why would someone make this up?

as I posted a few weeks ago macdonald would become swindon youth supremo and stuart pearce would become manager. this is all about to happen. swindon are likely to have new owners by the time the season starts. pearce has left his position with england and bodin has left his position at swindon. all is happening behind the scenes.

Wouldn't even want Pearce anyway. He's a buffoon.

If we cant afford to pay appropriate wages to attract decent players, I cant see how/why the club would entertain Pearce and his associated costs.

KMac has achieved more in football than Pearce.
