Cool

Over on thisis, there are the first stirrings of anti Fitton sentiment.  It goes something like this.....MM can only have been brought in and still retained to run the club down, because Fitton has a hidden agenda.

Bart any mileage in this view?

I think we can file this under b for bollocks. He's got a plan and he's shared it with the fans and he's delivering it. The only thing that isn't quite working at the moment is the biggest part - results. He'll be as worried as any of us. He's got a bit of a dilemna to resolve.

Anyone even trying to blame Fitton needs shooting IMO.  We owe that bloke our respect as an absolute minimum for what hes done for us.

Isn't it being disrespectful to AF, then,  being horrid to his man MM?

I just think Fitton is an idealist. He's got this dream of an XI of local lads bringing in the fans and creating a tremendous sense of community around the club.

Which is great.

Except that he's given himself an absolute mountain to climb. Weve got Reading and Arsenal setting up soccer schools in Swindon, Im sure others will follow. Then youve got the financial clout of the bigger clubs, snapping up teenagers at younger and younger ages (which morally is completely wrong, and is making a lot of these players arrogant wankers). All the while youve got Prem and Champ teams releasing 1000's of players every year when they get to their early 20's (and earlier) who are often plenty better than our own local youngsters. Lukas J, Brian Howard and Ben Tozer were all Championship academy rejects. None were home grown. Id say Lukas and Tozer were the ones who inspired Fitton to do this.

Fittons done wonders for us. But we cant afford to get relegated down to the basement again. Once you are mid table there its a slippery slope as the Scummers have found out. I cant see us staying up under Malpas next season, so something has to be done.

I'm not so sure. If that was the case Spencer, why did he fork out cash to sign McNamee and Cox?? I think you are right in saying he does want to encourage the growth and development of youth players in to the first team (then maybe selling them on) HOWEVER I don't think he wants an entire team of youngsters. It's a nice ideal everyone wants but I'm sure Fitton knows better....

Bit harsh to say on Malpas, we aren't million miles away from being a decent side. If we get the basics right in defence I think we'll be fine. Give Malpas some time, if things aren't going right a few months into next season then it'll be time to maybe look at getting another manager in.

Think a fans forum, covered by RS would be a good idea before the end of the season.

If AF wants to seriously go down this route, then he'll need to take the fans with him...if he feels MM is the man to do this job, then it would be good to hear from the horses mouth what structures are to be put in place.

Definitely Reg, I know the trust have been able to get those round the table meetings with Byrne, are they able to get in contact to maybe suggest a fans forum?

I am all for giving Malpas time, but can appreciate people's concerns over him.

What worries me is that if our first 6 games next season yield the same results as they did at the start of this season (i.e. just the solitary win) then the pressure on Malpas and the players will already be crushing.

Also, Spencer White said "soccer"...

True. He did sign those 2 players. And he put 7 youth teamers on contracts. Dual strategies. Sounds fucking expensive for a team getting 6000 fans, most of whom are season ticket. Can it last?

Weve got a very decent side on paper, which is why its pretty obvious that something is wrong and needs changing. I cant see where Malpas is going to go. He's basically admitted that his own strategies (3 and a half whatever) have totally failed. Apparently we are going back to a more conventional formation. Last home game he even tried to totally change the team at half time. Look, Id love us to hit gold and go on a great run. Malpas proves them all wrong etc. But what Im looking at and what my head tells me is that this guy doesnt know what he's doing.

I suspect the youth team contracts have been paid for by the Lukas/Tozer money, some of which was to be re-invested in youth.

Apparently Cox was paid for by Fitton personally, and I don't know how much McNamee was but possibly covered by the Tozer cash as well?

trouble is there is no such thing as an investor in football.especially a club like stfc. up to its neck in debt.
fitton can only be seen as a benefactor.because unless he has a hidden agenda,he wont get a return on his money.
for those reasons i am still dubious.
