Under some circumstances however, the axolotl can undergo metamorphosis into a terrestrial from, although this can be stressful on the animal, and you would need a new set of knowledge and equipment regarding the care of a salamander. Axolotls can be forced to change into their adult state if induced to change, but it is not recommended

Not quite the story that I was looking for, but it is still very rare that they change into full adult form....

So there......

If I lived next to a cannal and wanted to do some fishing would it be worth putting in a laod of baby fish into the cannal directly outside my house thus stocking up the local population.

Would the fish stay around or would they simply swim off?

I'd say you do enough fishing as it is.

Would it not be possible to encourage the fish to stay there.

For example, in the sea they do things like scuttle ships or drop breeze blocks to make artificial reefs.

I know that there is quite a difference between the sea and a canal but perhaps the same principal could be applied. Maybe if the fish always had plenty of food there, for example, then they may choose to stick around.

Could you keep a couple in a tank/pond and then take them for walks (or swims) in the canal? You could tie string round them or something.

Do NOT get any Neon Tetras, they are lovely to look at, but they are Khamikase (Sp) fuckers and will without a doubt commit suicide by throwing themselves into the pump/filter. I speak from experience.

that's exactly what my cardinal tetras did, every single one. i need to get an external filter so they have no way of getting in to it.

Of course, the axolotyl is also known as the Mexican Walking Fish, despite not being a fish.

You could just tie a piece of string around axs and take him for a walk.

Or go for the Captain Beefheart.....Trout Mask Replica look.
