I think Roberts is a good league one player on his day. He's lost that extra bit from his younger days that made him a bit special.

I disagree a bit. I don't think he can still put in full 90mins special performances, but he's still worth it if he can pull it off 20mins in a game.

Although, he is getting on a bit, and with ComeOnMingTheMerciless filling more of a wing-back role on the right, there is less of need for a Robert's style winger. If he's coming off the bench more then that doesn't really matter that much. When he pulls off one of his special days in the last 20 mins it doesn't really matter which attacking role he's playing. Be it Macbeth or Batman.

He was spotted the other lunchtime in the bar at the GW.  Sorry to disappoint you all -  he was apparently drinking coffee!!

He lost it when he got injured the first time this season but decided to play through it so he could have the op in the close season. Only that didn't work, it made things worse from the sound of it.

Every season there is something that goes wrong. Can't help but think that's just the way it will always be, hence my argument.

Don't get me wrong I think he's a good player and I like him in the team (especially as I dislike McGovern), but I think there will always be something to limit him, even when he's playing that 'special' 20 minutes.

And the original point I was making is - do we have to settle for players like that simply because we are Swindon Town?

What was the point of paying £200k for Cox? That was the most ambitious thing we have done in a long time.

We need to show more ambition with who we target (don't mean paying transfer fees necessarily) if we want to go up. Perhaps even get some slightly worse but extremely consistent performers to balance things up.

there's always a player the fans get on the back of - in the recent past it's been Duke, Robinson etc - if it's Christian roberts now, then it shows the squad has improved big time

That's because unfortunately a few of our fans are utter morons.

I take this is stfc as pretty good evidence of this!

Don't agree with booing players, but when players aren't doing very well then fans have every right to voice their opinions. I don't care how someone played last season. That past form is not going to do us any good in the present.

There's just no room for sentiment in football is there  Wink

Everyone will forever have their favourites regardless of actually how good they are. I personally think Brez is a different class to Smith when on his day. Really we should consider Football as a form sport and your only as good as your last game. Sadly we all love a bit of history.

That's what makes us British. Sadly also conincides with us lacking in terms of world class sporting performers.
