Dave,
Im looking to organise a golf day for some business associates, Have you played Ogbourne, Marlborough or Erlestoke and in your opinion which one is best? most of them play off of about 18 .
3 nice courses there.
Ogbourne Downs is a relatively challenging course because of how it's set up - on the downs - and you've very really got a flat stance on the course, and the clubhouse isn't great. I understand they've still got the dreaded winter tee's in play.
Erlestoke's a bit out in the sticks but probably the best maintained course, the most interesting and whilst challenging, not unplayable like Ogbourne on a wet and windy day. Best clubhouse and restaurant out of the 3 too. On the downside the staff are few and far between now they've lost alot of members and not very helpful.
I love Marlborough GC. It's def the shortest of the 3, but it's always very green and pretty well looked after. Flexible as well, you can just turn up most days. They're well geared at looking after groups as well so you'll have a good laugh, it's pretty laid back in the bar. The first hole is a short straight par 5 so everyone could get off to a good start! Certainly the easiest course of the 3, this will sound arrogant but if I played there every week I'd be playing off 2 or scratch.
I'd therefore have to say Marlborough - best for off-course and the best course to play for the higher 'cappers.
Sorry to go on mate, hope that's useful!
