How much should we willing to pay him to come here?

His own Zeppelin and the skies of Swindon and its surrounding area?

Zeppelins were fucking ace....apart from the occasional tendency to combust with disasterous consequences.

Gotta think that with improved terchnology they could become the travel of the future.

Standards are slipping Reg.

Cox is certainly not a done deal. Northampton obviously fancy there chances of getting him. It's obvious that it's Cox they're talking about here a couple of days ago:

http://www.northamptonchron.co.uk/sport/New-signing-will-complement-Hubertz.3716333.jp

I still think we'll get him though because I believe we will match whatever Northampton offer and at the end of the day it will come down to where the player wants to play. In that event I believe he wants to play for us. And no,  I don't have a friend of a friend whose cousin's boyfriend's dog work's at the club. I can just feel it in my water Cool

This article was made 2 days ago and since then the winds have changed direction... The adver hasn't been wrong very often recently to be fair to them. 18M for Best holdings? and they fucked off etc...  they reported it first...

There's also a report from today which refers to the fact that they are still trying to sign him.

Good!  Who the fuck would want to play for Northampton?  They have been nothing, are nothing and will be nothing.

If we do sign Cox tomorrow, that's a fucking good bit of business for us.

Just listened to Maurice's post-match comments from last night; Early days I know, but I'm warming to him.

If we get Cox that's great news. Would provide us with plenty of options up front, and no matter what your opinion is of Blair Sturrock, we would have several better alternatives!

Obviously whichever side he signs for (if any) will make Saturday a bit more interesting

Pity about Cox really but hey ho that's life you can't always have what you want. I just hope that because of our interest Swindon have had to break the bank to get him.

New and revolutionary story in the adver. Cox has to choose between us and Northampton Smiley

I'd imagine all will be clear by tomorrow morning. Good to see we are having a serious go at it though.

Town and Cobblers in battle for Cox
By Gareth Moorhouse

SOUGHT-after Simon Cox looks almost certain to grace the County Ground pitch again this weekend, although it is not yet clear which colour shirt the striker will be wearing.

Swindon host League One rivals Northampton Town - the other club in the hunt for Cox's signature - at SN1 on Saturday, and the Reading marksman has yet to decide where his long-term future lies.

The Robins are hot favourites to land Cox after agreeing terms with the Royals yesterday, but the Swindon Advertiser understand the striker was also spotted undergoing a medical at Sixfields.

With the transfer window due to close at midnight tonight, Cox has just hours to ponder his next move, and Town fans are keeping their fingers firmly crossed that the 20-year-old chooses Wiltshire over Northampton.

Board member Jeremy Wray last night confirmed the club had tabled an offer to Cox, but admitted he expects any transfer dealings to go "right down to the wire."

Wray said: "Negotiations are ongoing and every effort is being made to get Simon Cox in.

"I think it is fair to say we have satisfied Reading and now Simon is considering his options.

"What I will say is that I am confident Simon Cox will be at the County Ground on Saturday. We just hope he will be wearing a Swindon shirt."

Though the Cobblers have yet to publicly confirm their interest in Cox, sources close to Northampton revealed chairman David Cardoza had also offered terms to the promising centre forward.

Cox spent six weeks on loan at the Sixfields last season and Cardoza has not given up hope of landing the striker.

He said: "It's an ongoing process and one that we've been working on for a very long time.

"We're confident we will have a new striker signed by the time the window closes, but time is definitely not on our side.

"If we can't get our number one target we will have a look at going into the loan market, that is something we have always had in mind throughout this month.

He added: "We've got a few other options available to us and I'm confident a new striker will be at the club in time for the game at Swindon on Saturday."

Town meanwhile, are hoping to unveil another new player today as chairman Andrew Fitton looks to arm Maurice Malpas with a squad capable of crashing the League One play-off party.

Wray revealed an offer had been made to a current Championship player who could add an extra dimension to the Town midfield.

He said: "We are chasing a midfielder who I think would surprise a lot of people. I think he would be the missing piece in our midfield.

"We have satisfied the club and I believe we might have satisfied the player, but we will just have to wait until Thursday now."

Wray also confirmed the club had received several enquiries about defender Chris Blackburn, although he said no offers had yet been made.

Blue Square Premier outfit Forest Green Rovers and Blackburn's former club Morecambe are believed to be two of parties interested in Town's summer signing.

If the last transfer deadline day is anything to go by then the omens are good for Town, who swooped to sign Cox, Billy Paynter and Jon-Paul McGovern at the 11th hour.

Cox went on to become an instant hero in Wiltshire, scoring nine times in four months, before moving back to Premiership Reading at the turn of the year.

But even if Town miss out on their number one target, Wray insists the new consortium are committed to providing Malpas with the best possible squad.

He said: "We have built some momentum at this club and we are determined to keep it going.

"The chairman wants to provide Maurice with the players he wants but that has to be done against a sensible and stable background.

"We don't want to be spending silly money on players.

"Personally I don't mind if our squad is a little top-heavy if it helps our push towards the end of this season.

"If we get to the end of the season and we have not won promotion then we may need to trim the squad back down again in the summer."

TOWN have yet to confirm a date for their FA Youth Cup fifth round tie away to Championship club Charlton Athletic.

The club are keen to avoid a repeat of Tuesday night's fixture clash, when Town's youngsters beat Middlesbrough in front of a sparse crowd while the first team travelled to Luton.

If its money, I think we can match Norfamtun if its ambition I would like to think we would outweigh them.

Cox is a Reading lad and, were he to sign for us, one obvious attraction would be the easy commute to Swindon.  Northampton, on the other hand, is a bugger of a drive from Reading (which is poorly connected to the north) and he would probably have to move there.

I suppose I'm hoping that Cox is as much of a mummy's boy as Joey Beauchamp and that his transfer decision is influenced by potential for homesickness.

Eh?

A34 then A43, probably won't take him much longer than getting to Swindon.

If he signs for us and suddenly turns shit some of you on here are going to look pretty stupid for making such a fuss that Fitton had no choice but to sign him. You should probably be made to pay for him or something.  :nono:
