was very well regarded from what i've heard reg.i didn't see him play though.

But the header calls for an all time XI, so you don't necessarily need to have seen them play.

For me Donsborough was a better keeper, because he ddin't get protection from namby pamby challenges....didn't have gloves, played on mudheaps, with a fairly hard ball.

All of which combined to give a higher range of skillls than just shot stopping.

I loved the big postman Kenny Allen he was class!

But Downsborough, Digby and Jimmy Allan are the best for me.

We had a couple of international keepers in the 50's my dad tells me, a Scot who was not bad and Norman Uprichard a Northern Irish international who was very good too.

For me a crustie, is a youthful person who lives in the countryside in shared accommodation......doesn't work,  and doesn't wash too often.

But Pete Downsborough used to race pigeons.....which elevates him into the status of sporting all rounder.

My father used to regale me with tales of Sammy Burton....he also was a mate of Frank Boulton.   He took great pride in introducing me to Frank. "Son Frank saved a pen at Turf Moor in a 2-0 cup win....they finished 3rd in the league that season."

The scot may have been Frank Haffey who famously let in 9 against England at Wembley in 1963

Can't have been Haffey, if he was supposedly not too bad....I recall him making a blinding save from a Frank Brogan pen in 64 on his first CG game v Ipswich.  Unfortunately like another Sweatie keeper Joke Findlay,  Frank liked the bottle.
