One of the images from 1990 and the double relegation for the financial 'irregularities' which I won't ever forget is of Dennis Smith (then manager of Sunderland) cracking open the champagne to celebrate Sunderland's 'promotion' in our place.

No ta.

He's been out of the game too long I'd suggest not up with all the modern ways of coaching etc, he may be someone that board have spoken to for advice of football matters, or he may just be an aquantance of Wray.

He was at Wrexham until last season so not that long, just don't like the bloke and his history doesn't do him any favours

Aside from the obvious Scum links, Smith does have a bit of a track record of getting in quality players....eg buying Andrew Cole for Shitty.  Getting Enzo Maresca for WBA, and Carlos Edwards for Wrexham.

I've always kind of liked Smith, which goes back to his playing days as a Stokie, when they had a good few years in the early 70's....with the likes of Buzz Conroy, Peter Dobing and the late John Ritchie.

Smith was a really hard but fair type centre half.....think he broke his leg at least 4 times, but he always came back.

Maybe Fitton is attracted by his eye for a bargain.
