i've got it down to £36.50 on proper tickets which is the same as Sam posted on the other thread:

£7.50 Return from Swindon > Didcot
£20.00 Return from Didcot > Paddington + tube
£9.00 Return from Liverpool Street/Fenchurch Street > Southend Central

Are you using the same station as axs quoted?  (Although I guess it shouldnt make that much difference?)  Trains confuse me, should just be one website as opposed to loads.
