i've got it down to £36.50 on proper tickets which is the same as Sam posted on the other thread:
£7.50 Return from Swindon > Didcot £20.00 Return from Didcot > Paddington + tube £9.00 Return from Liverpool Street/Fenchurch Street > Southend Central
