This could be a portent, for something like what happened in Star Trek IV The Voyage Home.....when an extra terrestrial probe was wreaking havoc on the Earth, trying to communicate with long extinct hump back whales. Kirk and co had to warp around the sun in their stolen Klingon bird of prey, and travel back in time to sort the mess out.....I think something similar may be needed at STFC.
