Will keep it brief, ive taken on my fathers company so he can semi-retire. Company makes very good money and ive worked my ass off teh last 6 weeks trying to get his all ok and also running my own stuff alongside.
Problem is I asked him to work out what he owes me as I am being very fair, hes trying to pay me £600 a month which after tax etc its about £100 a week for what is about 2 hours more a day plus an extra 25 calls a day.
How would you broker the fact that its taking the piss? He made a memeber of staff redundant on £1500 a month (she was part time and my sister) and seems to think I will do it all at well under that?! My problem is I am a bit blatant and wouldnt mind to resolve it without going into one as such

Sorry Bushy but you are the person most likely to know how you dad will react.
If it were my mum, I'd just bring it up directly by explaining it exactly as you did above. She'd probably be fine with it. But not knowing your dad it's impossible to say.

Thats the problem, we only have a business relationship - he knwos I watch swindon and thats it about my life except work. He is just very tight

i know of someone who has acted as an advisor to a family run company for some time now - he might be have a bit of time on his hands soon, but I'm sure he would be interested to speak to you ....

write to him in a caefully thought out letter explain your views. That way you can both consider the problem calmy and without the stress of a face to face discuss. I have learn't that it is always best to have a written agrument as you have to think more about the letter rather than just saying the first thign that comes to mind. aslo if you write a letter you might not have to go all red like you do when you get stressed!!!!!! also harold won't have to wobbel is chin!!!! on the other hand you could jut nick the money off him?  |

Do you know exactly how much his business makes?
Will you be the only employee / director?
That does seem to take the piss, especially if you are basically working to make him money whilst he sits on his arse!
I'd put some figures together beforehand regarding how much you will be making him and how much work you put into it (maybe some ideas about how you could increase profits too) and calmly inform him that he is taking the piss.

Say to him with the greatest of respect old bean we are talking 2 hours per day of my time and as much as I would like to help that two hours means that I:
a. Have to work an extra two hours per day to cover it
b. Effectively lose two hours worth of revenue, which I would estimate between £x and £x, which as you can see just doesn't add up with what you are offering.

Between 35 - 46k a month income. He owns the company totally, my brother does the maintanance/development side on stupid money but thats his only income, accountant and I do day to day management of business, problems, inspections of properties etc
Im leaving early to take my sister for dinner so will decide over night. I want him to retire but im screwed if im having an early grave so he can take my step mum on holiday each month

Bushey are you likely to get this business given to you in his will/otherwise?
Cos you're going to get a mice tax free benefit if you are so I'd try and keep him a bit sweet. Just say that whilst you want to help the family business out, essentially you're working for less than £10 an hour, which isn't really enough to cover the phone calls or the petrol, let alone make you any extra dosh.

he called me earlier and pointed out I get to own the business (with brother and silent sister) and should want to help out. I explained my brother takes out a wage of over 50k working for the company so it dont wash. This could take a while!
Ah well he will break first

How much do you want? Just ask him for that.
If your brother has been working for him longer then he probably deserves as much. Obviously the money you're getting isn't good enough though.
