if you highlight a space in someone elses message and copy it (right click and select it or just press CTRL+C) you can paste a space in by pressing CTRL+V whenever you need one. It's not as easy as hitting space but you'll get used to it pretty quickly.

Try holding down one of the Alt keys and typing 0160 on the numpad. Then let go of the Alt keys. It might matter which alt key you use if you've got two so try both. Oh and Num Lock should be On I think.

My alt seems to want to take a 4 digit number instead of the classic from 0 to 255 or whatever the standard character set is nowadays. Anyway do 032 like Si says.
