i think there are some cases where capital punishment is a justified sentence.this being one of them.
hospitals in crisis, gridlocked roads, housing problems, the list is endless.why pay £1000s a year to keep them when decent people are funding them and money could be used elsewhere?
prison is meant as a time for the convicted to pay for their crimes and to rehabilitate to enter society again.people like those will never be sorry or be rehabilitated.the same goes for huntley, sutcliffe ect, ect.

How do you know that people can't be rehabilitated if you don't try? And if they don't respond to any rehabilitation now who says they won't later on?

I'm definitely on Jay's wave length here, I can't justify killing anyone whether they intended killing people or not.

We are not in a position to play God, lock them up, throw away the key, but we do not need to stoop to the level of the average wannabe suicide bomber and kill people to teach 'em a lesson.

If we had the death penalty........

The Birmingham six would be DEAD.

The Guilford four would be DEAD.

Plus, no doubt, a whole load of other innocent people who were found guilty of serious crimes, only to have their sentences quashed at a later date.

We are supposed to be a civilised society. The death penalty is barbaric and belongs in the past.

The cunts that did this should be locked up for life, but it is morally wrong to take a life, imho.

To continue Hertha's point

Derek Bentley (mental age of 12) would be DEAD - oh wait a minute he was put to death, wrongly.

i agree about the miscarriges of justice,guilford4,ect.but some cases are cut and dried.huntley, these murder conspirers and the like.

if i'm honest though, it probably wouldn't work totally as others would wrongly be given the death penalty as history shows, as our police would just fit people up like they have before.

I'm not behind the death sentance, quite the opposite in this instance in fact, I hope they live for years in fear, they deserve it.

Agree Jan, Hertha and Sonic, despite the cost letting these people rot in prison is right, they wanted to die and putting them to death lets them win.  There is too many risks of justice miscarriages to put peopel to death - you can always free someone from prison but you can't un-execute them.

If blowing up shitloads of innocent people including women and children is a crime that should be punishable with death, does that mean we can kill George Bush?

Cool! I vote we shoot the fucker!

Been around for hours waiting for Fred to turn up.

Can I just say

Luckily for the rest of us, they don't let Tampon Machine Maintenance men decide on justice. You'd make an interesting vigilante though Fred.

You're all fucking idiots. How the hell can you claim that on one hand it's not ok to go around blowing people up but on the the other hand it is ok to execute criminals?

Fucking grow up the lot of you. It's either ok to take someones life or it isn't. No grey areas.

blowing up innocent people is far different to executing convicted criminals, who attempted to wipe out as many people as they could.
its not a fair comparison imo.

tis a question of scale dear boy. I still don't believe in capital punishment ever! full stop.

Besides, the main argument for the death penalty is that it is a deterrant. How exactly is the death penalty a deterrant to people who are willing to die for their cause?

I agree with that 100%. Thats why we should torture them instead
