A PHONE call out of the blue ended Paul Sturrock's transfer stalemate yesterday as Adebayo Akinfenwa arrived at the County Ground.
The former Swansea striker, 25, has agreed a one-year deal with Town, subject to passing a rigorous set of medical examinations on the leg he broke in February.
The new acquisition was a pleasant surprise for Sturrock, who had expected to miss out on the forward after several other League One clubs, including Gillingham and Bournemouth, joined the hunt.
Town boss Luggy had been continuing negotiations with the two unnamed targets he failed to pin down on Thursday when he received the call telling him Akinfenwa's preferred destination was Wiltshire.
Sturrock said: "It was a frustrating day on Thursday, but it just shows you in football.
"Today out of the blue I get the phone-call that Bayo wanted to come here. So that deal has been done."
But the signing of Akinfenwa, who goes by the name Bayo, will not spell an end to the other deals Sturrock has in the pipeline, although he has issued deadlines to both targets.
He added: "I've had a bit of concern about the two boys but I have now committed a time frame to them to come back and either commit to us or say no."
