You only have 6pts before a ban instead of the usual 12, I think thats for the first 2/3 yrs IIRC?

:toppost: Spot on Matt.

It was more than likely he was in a 30 zone without even realising.

Isn't a speeding offence noted as an SP30 for exceeeding a 30 limit, SP40, etc ?

SP30 just means exceeding the speed limit on a public road. So in the 40mph case you'd still get an SP30.

I have been really lucky. I have been stopped twice by guns. First time was a beautiful sunny day after a days work in Tesco. I wanted to get home and only lived a couple of miles down the road. I think I was doing nearly 40 in a 30 (which was lucky as I normally did about 50 in my young naive days) and got a warning to slow down. Second time was the same shitty metro and I was driving home from Edinburgh at silly o'clock in the morning. It was freezing cold and again I had been zapped doing about 40 in a 30. The copper (who had been standing at the top of a hill - sneaky git)  gave me a warning and basically said that even though there was nobody about, it was icy and I should watch my speed etc and let me on my way!

Actually there was another occasion. I was designated driver and I agreed to pick up some friends in town. This stupid girl in the back warned me to drive carefully so to try and put the shits up her I decided to zigzag up and down the highstreet to freak her out. Unbeknown to me, an unmarked police car was behind me and I remember almost browning my jockeys as I got breathalised and a warning for driving like a cunt.

More recently, driving back from Strasbourg I got flashed by a speed camera doing 180kmh in a 110kmh limit (sorry, don't know the MPH equivalent) but have never received anything in the post.

Don't break the speed limit and you won't get points.  Break the speed limit then don't complain when you are caught.

I don't give a shit whether the cops are being sneaky or not, I'm man enough to know the limits are not just put there for decoration,  If i decide to ignore it and get caught then it's my own fault.

People moaning about getting caught speeding really does wind me up.

 Shocked

You were lucky....  That's 115mph in a 70mph!  That'd have been a ban if you'd been done in this country!

When I had my license...  Crying  ... I was quite good, but still managed to get done for 71mph in a 60mph by a speed camera.  It was on a dual carriageway at night and the 60mph signs hadn't been lit up...  Didn't bother appealing though, as it isn't worth arguing with the fuzz.

I was on that long stretch of road going past walmart so that's definelty a 40 as they have signs stating that. It was a man in the middle between the two roads with a speed gun. No one pulled me over on anything as he didn't have a car.

I weren't going that fast anyway, just got worried as i've only just started driving.

Beckett they don't need to pull you over nowadays, you'll just get a letter through the post if you were speeding.

41/42 in a 40 appeal as it'd get thrown out of court.

If the copper was stood just inside the 30mph zone I don't think that'd stand up either tbh.

If you've only been driving a week and get done for speeding staright away don't you lose your license for 6 months or something, or have I just made that up.

Erm, why not? Aren't you supposed to slow down before you hit the 30mph zone?
