Definitely worth a squirt and thank you to whoever it was that suggested it a few months back on here.  I've forgotten who you are but muchos gracias we had an absolute storming time and the weather was sublime.  Real tropical stuff.

Krakow definately comes highly recommended before they join the Euro and the stag and hen parties invade en masse.  The old city is pristine  the buildings, churches and monuments are genuinely interesting from down the eras (that's me getting old then) and it's probably the safest place I've ever been.

Quid a box of snouts and £4 for a bottle of vodka, which from experience I was expecting to be generally as rough as old arseholes but a lot of the top of the range stuff  is different class and has been voted above the likes of your poncey grey goose and Russian top tipples as the best Vodka in the world.

8 litres cam back with me plus a litre of Polish Absinth.

Auschwitz was a must if not a little harrowing.  Bizarrely for the best part it’s in immaculate condition right down to the gas chambers and ovens, which was a little unnerving.  Worst part was the mountains and mountains of day to day items such as toothbrushes, spectacles and human hair (used in the German textile industry) from the victims that died and that was just a snippet of what was remaining when the camps were liberated.  Most of it was shipped to Berlin on a regular basis.

Finally the flange – different class.  Say no more.

What there are still piles of hair and glasses and stuff?

Are they real or have they been put there as a museum piece?

All of the victims were shaved before being killed as the smell of burning hair is awful (apparently), jewelery, glasses, fillings etc were all removed beforehand as well as they could be used.

I don't think human hair decomposes quickly does it?

It was all real there was just a mountain of grey hair but it was all of the kids shoes that really bit.

What got me was how ‘modern’ the buildings all looked.  When you see the pictures and films in black and white it doesn’t quite hit home how real and recent it really all was.

Apparently as they were all shipped in on the train the doc on duty would send you to the right to the camps for slave labour and to the left to the gas chambers.  Most of those sent were women and kids.  The kids had to pass under a fairground style height measurement stick and those that passed under were killed.  The guide explained that a lot of them intuitively kicked in that something wasn’t right and would stand on their toes to try and measure up.

Oh and cheers Chubbs - top man!

Krakow is in the running for a Euro 2012 slot, which would be an immense trip.  One for the calendar.

I was that impressed I even had a snoop at apartment prices on buy-to-let.

They have to do something to the hair every so often to preserve it apparently.

as simple as that photo is, it's very disturbing.

you look through the picture and there isn't just one or two pairs of shoes theres millions. all once belonging to people and were on there feet maybe an hour before there torturous deaths.

not a nice thought
