Sturrock's Update

Good afternoon and welcome to the last update before we head off to Macclesfield Town on Friday.

Training has not been ideal this week. We had a small-sided game today because we only had a small square of ground to work with. The frost has really got into the surface at the training ground so made things difficult for us.

Tuesday's friendly with Swansea City was very useful. It gave me the chance to see some more of the fringe players in action. There are not many teams who would give you a friendly over the Christmas and New Year period so we were delighted with it.

Ashan Holgate battles his way through

I have now seen all but two players in our squad. Ashan Holgate and Andy Caton are the only ones who I am yet to really see in a match situation. They are the last two - and obviously the goalkeeper.

I am meeting some of the Board members later on today so I will have a sit down and discuss the breakdown of the squad and what the options open to me are. There is a 60% salary cap in operation so we will have to move players out before we can add to what we have. This is something we will be working on. We don't want players here languishing in the reserves just playing sporadically in the first team. They will be better off dropping a standard or two but playing games regularly.

Christian Roberts is suspended for this weekend's game so we have a decision to make in terms of selection. Whoever gets his place will have to make sure they work hard and make it even more difficult for Christian to get back into the team again. We want competition in the squad and hopefully this Saturday's game is an opportunity once again for players to show what they have to offer.

I look forward to seeing some of you at Moss Rose at the weekend.

I guess the "make it even more difficult" - more difficult than what, coming back from suspension?

He's trying to say whoever comes in should try and take the opportunity. Play so well, that PS can't drop them for the next game. Don't think it's a personal swipe at Christian Robots

Simple, he wants competition for places - so by someone coming in and playing well, Roberts won;t be able to assume his place back. All positive...

... or someone comes in for Roberts, plays well, keeps his place, Roberts loses confidence, Roberts turns shit again.

I'm not paranoid at all.

I think you are.  Cool

He's not saying he doesn't want roberts in the team, he's saying he wants competition.
