battle royale was really good... they made a sequel too that i haven't yet seen. a similar take on the "reality tv gone wrong" theme is "series 7: the contenders", although it's not japanese. try and see "infernal affairs" (a cop mole and a mob mole try and smoke each other out)... then there's "ong bak" (thai), "old boy" (korean), or if you like world cinema in general then you need to see "amores perros", "city of god", or any film by pedro almodovar. that should keep you going for a while.
I've seen Old Boy and City Of God, both ace. I'll keep a look out for the other recommendations, cheers.

While we're on the subject of foreign films, i've watched Bus 174 (Brazil) and Los Debutants (Chile) recently, both highly recommended (I'll return them Saturday Mex)
