hold on it's tuesday isn't it?
nevermind.
it's been awhile since we had one of these, so what films have you seen recently that you've enjoyed, what would you recommend and what are you looking forward to?
i must confess that i'm looking forward to the new pirates of the caribbean film, johnny depp is such a dreamboat. i also like the look of
hard candy, a hard hitting thriller with an interesting role reversal.
meanwhile, i've been watching some swedish films from director lukas moodysson. last week i watched
tillsammans (together) and today i saw
fucking amal. both are very interesting films in different ways, tillsammans is about a group of people living in a commune during the 70's and has the happiest ending of a film you could possibly imagine. in contrast, fucking amal is about teenage lesbians. in broader terms, it's more about teenage life in a deadend boring town, but avoid if you dislike sentimental stuff.
other class films i've seen of late are the big lebowski (obviously) and another coen brothers' masterpiece, miller's crossing. i'd rate it as better than the godfather in terms of mafia/gangster films. i've just got fargo from a mate, so i shall watch that in good time.
one of the more interesting films i;'ve seen recently is requiem for a dream, probably the most disturbing film i've ever watched. it's the only film that's ever made me feel physically unwell and whilst i find some of it difficult to watch because the direction feels to pretentious and arty for the sake of being abstract, the story is compelling and the cast is superb. i'd recommend it.
i've waffled on a bit.
