I used to dive when I played ... its nothing new!
Basically I often played as a right back and I took the penalties .. so i always used to give myself one run per half into the box ... and then dive so I had a chance to get a penalty
Amazing how often the ref fell for it!

Good points dave. Wot they probly mean is that theyll do it when playin from a very young age for their team. 'On the playground' does probly not mean literally 'on the playground'.

I used to dive when I played at school aswell. Only because I was always taught "if you get caught go down like a sack of potatoes". I wasn't sure how potato sacks went down at all so I just used to fall over.

I remember after Rene Higuita's scorpian kick in '95 when everybody was trying to emulate it in the playground but just ended up looking like a retard with grazed knees and elbows.

Blah, I never dive because despite the fact I would love to be a Pro Footballer (who wouldnt) I dont want to be 'like' the 'current' pro footballers.
I only go down, if I have been taken out and usually I get up straight away and look for the ball.
Maybe its just me, but when I hit the deck or someone kicks me my first thought it always....wheres the ball gone....not act hurt to get a free kick
