Who would of thought at this point in the season we would have southend top, I think Huddersfield could manage in the championship, but Southend and Swansea.... that is just hilarious.... not only that, but in the relegation zone you have both us and shitty, and also the Gills.... ok Mcdons are crap, but who would of thought it.... shows how you cant predict this league

Ah you say that but I put a bet on Swansea at 33-1 back in May.  Tongue

Swansea is good value at 33-1 New stadium and they'll be getting decent crowds

No offence Ben but I don't want to see them win it either.  The welsh bastards should be playing in their own league.

Good odds though.

I would like to see Southend win it. A small club with passonate fans.
We should be doing what they have been doing.

i'm getting quite worried about the fact we play bristol city the last away game of the season. could be a massive relegation decider! not looking good.

I doubt it. City will climb the table soon I reckon. They won't set the world alight but they'll end up around 10th or so. And besides, we'll be relegated well before then.

i agree!

what they did was this... november 2003 they were struggling around the division 3 relegation zone, dave webb (i think) refused to take on the job full time so they announced ex-player steve tilson as caretaker manager whilst they tried to get someone in (you may remember that stanley victor collymore was talking about going for it). steve didn't have any first team management experience at all, although he had done lots of football in the community work. anyway, after a slow start he began to get results and by february they were clear of the relegation zone. steve was confirmed as manager towards the end of that season. as well as their recovery they also made it to the ldv final where they lost (but a welcome day out for the fans). that close season they lost their top scorer leon constantine* on a free as he signed for peterborough without even having the courtesy of telling southend that he had declined their contract offer. the next season they started off slowly but steadily, around late september/october time they signed a young lad named eastwood, and by the end of the season he had fired them to promotion. they also made the ldv final again. this season they're top of league 1.

* incidentally, leon constantine now plays for torquay who are currently 20th in league 2. shame!
