I know this might be a long shot as it might be a bit obscure, but....

I'm having difficulties adjusting the monitor for my PC, I don;t usually have these difficulties.

The symptoms:

It is too bright. So bright that it is glary as fuck. But during cinematic shots (games, movies, whatever) It is too dark and I can't see a fucking thing. Of course I can turn down the brightness and what not but that means that I can see even less during scenes in movies and games. Turning up the brightness/contrast during those dark scenes doesn't help much. It just make it brighter but I still can't see what's happening because the scene is too dark (I'm not sure that even makes sense)

The colours don't look right. Too deep or too dazzling. Red often becomes pink/purple-ish (but not always).

I've buggered about with brightness, contrast, colour controls etc but just cannot seem to find a happy medium. I've buggered about with the windows 7 colour control panel, on the monitor control panel and on my graphics card driver software but that doesn't help.

I know that I'm not giving much to go by but maybe somebody who knows about this will recognise my problem through personal experience and be able to tell me where I'm going wrong? I'm hoping that I've missed something really simple!

Try turning the refresh rate down in the control panel.
