My Civic is now out of its standard manufacturers warranty but Fish Brothers have written to me saying I can extend the warranty for a further 12 months for £400. Thoughts? Is it worth it as Honda's tend to be uber realiable?

My simple thought (as a cynical git) is that a company doesn't offer a anything out of the goodness of their heart. And going by my Fish Brothers experience, I can't imagine Fish Brothers offering anything that doesn't benefit them.
For the record I owned a Honda for about 3 years and it was 8 years old (I think) and it never required any work beyond that that you expect, although Fish Brothers insisted certain things needed doing (it didn't).

I never get any extra warranties. I've owned two civics (type r and 1.8 petrol) for a total of nearly six years. Neither needed anything doing, bar the usual services.

Don't bother. Put the money in a savers account if anything does happen in that year. If it doesn't, you are quids in.

This. Alternatively you could go outside and look at something like Warranty Direct .

The extended warranties you get for anything these days are not worth shit, something goes wrong there will always be small print saying things aren't covered. Better to spend your money on a service plan rather than a warranty, keep it serviced and any potential issues should be highlighted before they get to the point where they break, especially with a Honda.
