I've just been watching M and W on BBC2. In his younger days Ernie has his parting on the left and when he was older his parting was on the right. Can anybody explain this?

 Well it was a long standing joke that Wise wore a syrup.....maybe one side when younger was his natural, t'other side when older the syrup.   Do you reckon that Jorgi Loew gets out the old Grecian 2000?
