Was sure this was going to be Luke....Ho hum.
Still think there is a good player in there. But with Martin, Collins and Williams ahead of him its going to be tough..I guess Martin may not be here for long.

To be fair i think his hold up play and positioning in the box is actually very good. His link up with other players in the channels at Stevenage was quality. He's not a player the fans get excited about but his attitude must be okay if Di Canio still rates him after half a season and he's not a bad option off the bench at this level (as a striker).
My biggest concern is that Paolo seems to be suggesting he sees him as a wide option. He has been absolutely lost on the wing every time he's been put there.

What's the point in keeping him if he never plays?

He hasn't really played and with Collins, Williams, Martin ahead of him I can't see him playing up front. Not a winger either. Would rather we free up some space and send him back.

seconded. Use the money spent on Rooney's wages on keeping Paul Benson.

Well if he''s keen on keeping hold of him, maybe he needs to try actually giving him some game time? Although from what I've seen of him, I'm not jumping up and down with excitement at the thought. I think I'd rather have Luke Rooney out wide tbh. Pointless keeping hold of loan players to bench warm.

Agreed. Benson is better in the air than any of our other strikers. This alone would be enough for me to keep him over Rooney if it were that simple.

The article hints at the deal with Brum being quite favourable on terms for Rooney, which to me suggests we are probably not putting anything, if much, towards his wages. On that basis and with PDC perceiving him to be versatile and willing to put up with his methods, then why not have him aorund as back-up. He hardly suggests we are going to play him every week. Benson was in the same boat, but we let him go rather than sought it out, and again, presumably with Portsmouth footing some fo the bill. Seems like a couple of back-up players being used to get the wages right for the better ones to me.

I Like Benson, but he's probably at his level(lower L1), Rooney is a better bet, just needs a run and a bit of confidence.
