Just got back from a tour of the County Ground, if anyone has ever considered going but not got around to it I can highly recommend it. We got shown almost everywhere in the ground, the only place off limits was the actual pitch, had all our questions answered and generally were treated to a very interesting, relaxed 2 hour tour behind the scenes of STFC.
Highlights included
- The home dressing room, complete with kit ready for the Villa game tonight.
- The away dressing room, and how manky and bare it is compared to the home one.
- A fairly lengthy chat with Paul Bodin about the youth team and his town history. My Dad even managed to ask how often Paolo watches the youths, which prompted a good humoured "That's a pretty sensitive question right now".
- Sitting in Paolo's dugout seat trying not to whack the side.
- Our trophy cabinet with mementos from lots of big games alongside all the silverware.
- A canvas photo of 'that Cantona moment' hung right outside the boardroom.
The tour was really good fun, Chris and Kay who showed us around were brilliant hosts. The fact that the place was building up to the match tonight made it all the more special.
If you've never done it, especially if you have young town fans who might be interested, then I'd say book on the next one. You can't go wrong for a very reasonable eight quid.
