He built up the tension for the first game, and hated losing it.

What with the whole Constable thing, I think he has learnt to hate the yellow filth as much as we do (or at least some of us do).
I wouldn't put it past him to have identified Crewe as one of the filth's challengers, and hence let Bodin go there.
