This is an explanation of the Type R's i-VTEC engine for those doubting it.
Of course without some form of forced induction, getting such high power outputs from just two litres requires high revs, which in turn requires cams with high lift and long duration to provide sufficient valve opening to allow the engine to draw in large amounts of air/fuel mix. Great at high revs but crap at low revs, which is a real problem for a road car - or would be without Honda's ingenious VTEC system, which works by literally having two camshafts in one, with three cams (two mild ones sandwiching a central wild one) for each pair of valves.
In normal running the mild cams do the work, operating the valves via rocker arms just like with an ordinary 16-valve engine. The clever bit happens around 5850rpm when pins lock the previously redundant central rocker arm to the two outer ones, at which point the valves are then controlled by the high lift, long duration cam, providing the improved breathing the engine needs to run at high revs.

Did he let you read the paper today spencer? Im gonna do my team tonight No he didnt. The old fucker catches a bus from Grove in the morning so is at work half hour before me at 6.50. HE FINNISHED OFF HIS TEAM and then STUCK THE DREAM TEAM SUN UNDER YESTERDAYS ROTTING FOOD IN THE SKIP! He then asked me 'if id finnished my team yet?'. To which I replied he was a yiddish cunt and to go grow himself a foreskin (hes spurs). Il put his picture up on here if hes not careful.  I had of course foreseen the act of sabotage and therefore bought todays sun. But the dream team sheet was nowhere to be found. Turns out Iv got to wait for fridays. Ive done one for the Star. But the 0905 number didnt work on the work phone and Im buggered if Im gonna spend 8 quid on it. That can go in the post. |
